First pilot study on the assessment of foetal blood flow using phase-contrast CMR.

Beverly Tsai-Goodman and her team from Bristol’s Children Hospital published the first pilot study on foetal blood flow using phase-contrast CMR in 5 subjects in late gestational age (35-38 weeks). PC CMR flow measurements were obtained in 36 of 40 target vessels and analyzed with QFlow. Strong inter- and intra-correlation coefficients were obtained at 1.5 and 3T field strengths. The authors conclude that this feasibility study is encouraging given the growing interest in 3T CMR for foetal anatomical and functional cardiac imaging.
